Alfonso Perez hails Neymar form!
Neymar Making People Forget Lionel Messi, Says Alfonso Ahead of El Clasico 2015.
The Brazilian has been on blistering form in front of the net together with Luis Suarez, and although Barcelona could be still without Messi for the first El Clasico of the season on Saturday, Alfonso doesn’t see that as a problem, as he exclaimed : “His layoff has shown that Neymar and Luis Suárez can carry the team. Neymar has risen to the challenge and then some. It seemed like Messi’s absence might hinder Barca, but the way he’s playing, Neymar is making people forget about Messi.”
Neymar has netted 10 goals since Messi ruptured a knee ligament against Las Palmas on September 21, and Alfonso – who represented both Clasico clubs and performed 38 times for Spain from 1992 to 2000 – has been enormously impressed by the No 11’s impact.
“The injury has shown that Neymar and Suarez are able to carry the team on their backs.
“Neymar’s making even more of a difference. It seemed that the absence of Messi could undermine Barca, but Neymar, at the level he’s shown, has made people forget about Messi.
In fact, lately the Brazilian’s performances have been so brilliant that comparisons have been made with Ronaldinho at the Camp Nou. Journalist Rafael Hernandez speculates that Neymar can steal the limelight with a match-winning performance at Bernabeu on Saturday— just as Ronaldinho did in 2009 before he was applauded off of the field.
Yet, a particular Real Madrid star will also be looking forward to stealing the limelight from Neymar: Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo has been a little off-form lately, however, netting just three goals in his last seven. Even so, Alfonso—who played for both Barcelona and Real Madrid during his remarkable career—believes that such form counts for nothing, per Marca: “The problem is that he has spoiled us rotten, so when he doesn’t score for a couple of weeks, crisis talk starts. It’s not fair. He’ll probably bag a couple against Barca and that’ll be the end of his bad streak.”
