Barcelona vs. Deportivo : picture gallery and best moments
Barcelona settled for a 2-2 draw against Deportivo La Coruna during Saturday’s La Liga match, opening the door for both Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid to make up the necessary ground at the top of the Liga position.
Lionel Messi gave the hosts an awaited lead in the first half with a fabulous free-kick, and when Ivan Rakitic doubled their lead in the second half, the match seemed sort of over. But Deportivo completed a miraculous comeback inside the last 10 minutes, with Lucas Perez and Alejandro Bergantinos both managing to find the net.
The Galician defence seemed almost unbreakable during the first half, but Messi eventually got the breakthrough with a perfect free-kick, scoring the first goal of Barcelona vs. Deportivo match.
Luisinho was careless enough to commit an unnecessary foul 25 yards from his own goal, and eventually the Argentina international punished him cruelly for it, curling the ball over the players wall and into the top corner.
Iniesta almost gifted the visitors an equaliser just before the half-time mark, playing a rushed pass with his back towards own goal. Jonathan might have been through on goal, but Pique more than made up for his earlier mistake with a foceful intervention, maintaining his team’s smooth lead in the Barcelona vs. Deportivo match.
Deportivo made a fabulous start to the second half, with Perez challenging Bravo early and Jonathan finding the side net.
A lovely passing move between Messi, Jordi Alba and Suarez witnessed the latter put the ball comfortably in the net, but the linesman had already raised the flag.
With Deportivo producing more danger, the mistake could have been harmful, but fortunately for Barcelona, Rakitic soon netted a second goal.
Perez took the opportunity of a poor clearance header from Jeremy Mathieu to pull the first goal back for Deportivo, sliding the ball past Claudio Bravo with just 13 minutes left to play.
As soon as play got back under way, the visitors shocked the Camp Nou by finding the equaliser. Perez again was in the picture, finding Bergantinos, who hammered the ball into the top corner.
