Barcelona vs Levante : Picture gallery and best moments
Barcelona opened up a three-point lead at the top of La Liga with a game in their hand after securing a confident victory at Levante.
Luis Suarez scored in stoppage time to kill off the challenge of cautious Levante after David Navarro’s own goal opened the proceedings in the first half of the Barcelona vs Levante clash.
Navarro was unfortunately placed as Jordi Alba fired straight into the box, only for the ball to amusingly canon off the backside of the defender.
Levante remain the league’s basement club following this defeat, but did have few chances of their own.
After picking up quite a few yellow cards for rather tough tackles, they fired a free-kick right over the bar before Morales could not convert a simple one-on-one, merely clipping the outside of the post.
But as they pushed for an equaliser, Suarez pounced in the tantalizing second minute of the stoppage time of the Barcelona vs Levante clash.
The Uruguayan was given a somewhat free run on goal from the half-way mark before curling the ball into the bottom corner of the net with the outside of his foot.
Suarez is now the unspoken leader for the Pichichi on 20 goals, with one more than Cristiano Ronaldo.
The game was interestingly Luis Enrique’s 100th in charge of Barcelona and of course, he celebrated it by notching his 80th win now.
Barcelona have scored an incredible tally of 282 goals in that period, conceding only 72.
“What matters to me are the team’s objectives,” said Enrique. “These are nice numbers, if they help us win titles at the end of the season, fantastic. We are in good position, but there is still a lot left.”
Another Barcelona team back in the 1973-74 season, coached by Rinus Michels and strong with Johan Cruyff in the squad, also went an impressive 27 straight games unbeaten.
