Neymar Ballon d’Or victory only a matter of time – Kaka
It is only a matter of time until a Brazilian again wins the Ballon d’Or, Kaka told the press in a heartfelt interview when he was to comment on Neymar’s chance of breaking the Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo myth regarding the Ballon d’Or award, thus ensuring a Neymar Ballon d’Or victory.
In 2007, the former AC Milan and also the Real Madrid star beat out Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi both to earn the top prestige and this year his compatriot, Neymar, is listed alongside the same two guys, the La Liga superstars on the shortlist for the topmost honor, which will be awarded on Jan. 11, 2016.
Neymar is the first Brazilian to be enlisted among the top three finalists since Kaka’s own victory in 2007 and his veteran Selecao compatriot thinks it has taken eight really long years to see another Brazilian being at the top of the list only because of the conditions to be nominated for this prestigious prize being so demanding, all the same being an intriguing chance of a Neymar Ballon d’Or victory.
“It’s difficult to point out a single reason for this, but it must serve to alert Brazilian football. And, truth be told, it’s no easy task to forge a Ballon d’Or winner,” said Kaka, who participated in Brazil’s 2002 World Cup champion squad.
The midfielder, who of late plays for Major League Soccer side Orlando City, said that the consistent dominance of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo is quite understandable, given how much they have accomplished in the span of their still thriving career.
“It had always been a rotation: Ronaldo and Zidane won it three times, but there was always some other player — names like Figo, Ronaldinho, myself, Rivaldo, Cannavaro… Then comes this succession of Cristiano and Messi, only the two of them — and it is fair, for what they have been doing year after year,” the 33-year-old said.
