Neymar court case – Court gives 20 days to Barca presidents to respond
The public prosecutor has decided that the Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu has a case to answer and he has been given 20 days to give a written response to the accusations of tax fraud that were allegedly committed When Barcelona signed Neymar Jr. in 2013.
According to local news sources the court now considers present Barcelona President Bartomeu and the former Barcelona president Rosell as defendants. And the two must respond in 20 days. This is a major step towards the trial. In Barcelona there were high hopes that after moving the case from Madrid’s high court to a court in Barcelona, the case would not go on trial.
Up till now Barcelona has not issued any public statement on the matter. Barcelona has always maintained their innocence in the matter. But it should be noted that the club €13m to the Spanish authorities after the initial accusations. The club defined this payment a result of the difference in the interpretation.
Prosecutors have alleged that Barcelona FC defrauded the Spanish Exchequer by €12.7m in the case of Neymar Jr. transfer. If the allegations are proved in court. Bartomeu can face the prison sentence of 2 years and 3 months and Rosell can face the prison sentence of 7 years. The prosecutors also want the club to be fined €22.2m.
