Neymar is named La Liga Player of the Month for November
The La Liga has called Neymar its player of the month for November. Neymar is presently the top scorer in the Spanish First Division with 14 goals in his name .
While rising to fame, the Brazilian striker has been humble ever since he set foot in Barcelona for the 2013/14 season, vowing to get better every day while thanking his mates for their support.
Last season FC Barcelona achieved the league title (as part of an unprecedented treble campaign) yet, unbelievably, not a single player coming from the team was deemed to be the best player in the league.
The La Liga Player of the Month Award is now in it’s third season, having been awarded out every month since the start of the 2013/14 season. The award has now been distributed 21 times.
With Neymar getting the honors in November of 2015, it makes the 15th time the award has gone to a striker, and the third time it has been given to a Brazilian.
The Selecao skipper – who excelled during the period Lionel Messi was out injured until the Bernabeu Clasico – pulled off a superb month with another double and an assist in the 4-0 Camp Nou victory against Real Sociedad on November 28.
No Barcelona player had ever got the award since its inception in 2013, while the 2014-15 Spanish champions not being among the nine different clubs who have been showcased in the list of monthly winners.
The Spanish club wrote on their official website: “Astonishingly, not only is this the first time Neymar has won the Spanish League’s player of the month award, it is the first time any Barcelona player has taken it home at all.”
Barca’s Clasico enemy Real Madrid have had three winners till date – Cristiano Ronaldo (twice) and Karim Benzema – while the 2013-14 champions Atletico Madrid have witnessed their players being rewarded on six times.
Luis Enrique’s squad lead La Liga by two points after playing 14 games, with Neymar being on top of the goal charts with 14 – one ahead of his Barca teammate Luis Suarez.
