Neymar must continue inspiring Barcelona
Barcelona’s No. 11 was significant last season but more often as a finisher than a provider ; his all-round talent only showing up sporadically. When Messi was absent due to an injury in September, we saw more of what Neymar the creator could pull off, and for some the conclusion from that duration was that he is now one of the top two players in the world, so amazig were the displays.
How long it would last was uncertain, honestly speaking. With the return of a figure as influential as Messi, there was always a possibility that the person who had picked up his legacy would have to return it with soon. Yet could it be possible that Messi is now willing to share the responsibility in equal measures?
Attempting to find a potential line of questioning amid constant appreciation for the away team’s performance, one journalist asked the manger if he would have a problem reintroducing Lionel Messi to a side that was soaring so high with Neymar at it’s center.
Before the reporter had even ended the question, the coach shook his head. “A big bloody problem,” was his witty response.
Symbolically, the image of Messi giving the ball to Neymar when Barca got a penalty in the second half against Roma felt fitting. The captain for that night was not only exercising his authority, but also acknowledging the consistent brilliance of his companion’s performance, one that asked for a goal just as much as the two that Messi scored.
Messi will continue to decide games for Barca and hold a major influence on the intensity of their attack, but if Luis Enrique can also sustain Neymar’s match-winning influence and continue exploring his potential as a gamemaker, the Catalans will just gain from it more.
That ideal balance was discovered at the first attempt on Tuesday but continuing with it will be trickier. Neymar must continue to shine with his amazing match presence.
