Neymar shined in El Clasico!
In football, there’s a sight barely more beautiful than a player on top of his powers. When his every distinct touch of the ball, every turn and little trick oozes confidence and you can watch him stroll around the ground with visible swagger. He easily stands out in the crowd and he smiles a lot. It was Neymar who nailed all of that Saturday night in the 171st El Clasico — the almost mythic clash between Real Madrid and Barcelona.
There is form and then there is the form that Neymar is going through right now. An encounter that in the past few years has become almost synonymous with Messi vs Ronaldo, surprisingly wasn’t about any of them this time. The former, just returning from injury, didn’t start initially, the latter did start the game indeed, but you would be disappointed if you think that it was vintage Ronaldo.
It was a humiliating experience for Real Madrid witnessed by over 80,000 home crowd as Barcelona gave them a thrashing in football, and as Neymar shined in the whole scenario. Luis Suarez scored a brace, improving his tally to 11 goals in 11 La Liga knocks, but it was Neymar who shines snatched the limelight for the match. The Brazilian scored Barcelona’s second and came up with an incredible backheel assist to Iniesta for the third goal. He now has nine goals and four assists under his name in last six La Liga encounters.
With his goal in the el clasico, Neymar also reached his 250th career goal combined for club and country. Just a suitable reminder that Neymar is still just 23 years of age.
Lionel Messi, who still claims the top scorer position of the El Clasico fixture with an amazing tally of 21 goals, has been out of action since September, due to a ligament injury in his left knee. But apparently Barcelona hasn’t missed him all this while. Neymar, the best name in the football world right now, and Luis Suarez have more than stepped up enormously to fill in the void that was left by Messi and together they have now delivered a combined 19 goals in the last nine games.
