Neymar wins the Samba Gold Trophy twice in a row
Neymar Jr has now won the Samba Gold trophy for the second year consecutively. This is the trophy awarded since 2008 to the best Brazilian player playing in Europe, for which the Barça star striker gathered an enormous 37.8% of the votes from a shortlist of top 30 players from the South American nation, which also included other stars like Rafinha and Dani Alves. He was deservedly followed in the ranking order by Bayern Munich’s Douglas Costa (13%) and then Inter Milan’s Felipe Melo (9.3%).
The result was based upon an equal tally of votes cast by eleven eminent journalists, a set of specially invited Brazilian celebrities and also former players (including Cafu and Juninho) and over an astounding 100,000 online users.
Neymar Jr has had an amazing 2015 so far, scoring 41 goals in all competitions to even win a nomination for the Ballon D’Or being in the same list with his team-mate Leo Messi and also Cristiano Ronaldo. He will be presented with the award in Barcelona in February.

Meanwhile, Neymar has sarcastically responded to Gary Medel’s accusation of ‘theatrics’ by saying he does not know who the Chile midfielder is.
The pair were involved in Brazil’s spirited 1-0 defeat of Chile in an international friendly match before the former Cardiff enforcer accused Neymar of excessive play acting.
‘I don’t know Medel, I don’t know who he is. If he says that it is theater, from there I will say nothing else. Only that it was a tough match,’
