Neymars assets worth £31.3m frozen by court due to tax evasion
A court in Brazil has frozen the assets of Neymar Jr. on the charges that the Brazilian evaded tax. The court ordered to freeze assets worth £31.3m (188.8m Brazilian reals). According to the Sao Paulo Federal Court the Barcelona star evaded £10.5m in Brazil between the year 2011 and 2013.
According to the judge Carlos Muta, Neymar Jr. only declared assets worth £3.2m. He added that Neymar Jr. was solely responsible for the declaration of his assets. The value of the tax evaded according to the court was £10.5m and in order to cover for the fines and interest the court ordered to freeze assets worth three times for the security reasons.
The frozen assets include property as well as vehicle. They have been frozen as a preventive measure to stop Neymar Jr. from selling these assets before the case is settled. All the frozen assets belonged to Neymar Jr. or the three companies he owns along with his father. The total assets of Neymar Jr. were approximately £40.45 (244.2m Reals)
Neymar Jr. has been under a lot of controversies due to his move from Santos to Barcelona and a court in Barcelona is looking at the transfer of the player. This tax evasion charge will bring in more criticism on the player and its important that he does not lose his focus on football while dealing with these issues.
