Ronaldo looked after Barcelona rival Neymar at Ballon d’Or
Cristiano Ronaldo put his club enmity aside to help out Barcelona superstar Neymar, according to television presenter, Kate Abdo.
The Real Madrid maestro has long endured the wrath of the Nou Camp during their ferocious battles in La Liga over the span of years, but Ronaldo was still happy to go out of his way to co-operate Brazilian Neymar at Ballon d’Or awards ceremony earlier this year.
Presenter Kate Abdo has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo displayed his softer side at this year’s Fifa Ballon d’Or ceremony by showing his Barcelona rival Neymar around the Zurich surroundings as well as ensuring that everything was properly translated for the Brazilian to understand.
Despite the rather frosty relationship between Real Madrid and Barcelona and Ronaldo’s presumed selfishness when it comes to his on-pitch displays, the £80m striker showed his compassionate side that is very rarely seen when the Portuguese is in front of the cameras.
Abdo reportedly admitted that Ronaldo as “very kind and caring towards Neymar”, even though his Barcelona team-mate and friend Lionel Messi was alongside them to complete the famous three-man shortlist.
The Los Blancos forward missed out to Messi on the prestigious award, while Neymar made the top three for the very first time in his career.
Messi won the Ballon d’Or prize for the world’s best player for the fifth time.
The 28-year-old Argentine claimed 41.33% of the vote, with Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo being the (27.76%) second, and Barca’s Neymar (7.86%) third.
Either Messi or Ronaldo, who became a convincing three-time winner last year, have won the last eight awards.
Speaking in an interview with Football Beyond Borders, Abdo remarked :
“He was just very kind and very caring towards Neymar, the way he looked out for him and made sure he knew what he was doing.
“And that’s a side [of Ronaldo] maybe you don’t expect.”
