Statistics battle – Ronaldo and Neymar
Two of the world soccer’s most popular stars, Ronaldo and Neymar, share their birthdays today. Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo turns 31 as of today and Barcelona’s Neymar turns 24. Ronaldo has already cemented his name into many record books while Neymar is well set on his way to pull off the exactly similar mark of greatness.
Ronaldo surpassed the incredible 500-goal plateau for his career earlier this current season. 343 of his 518 total goals have come wearing a Real Madrid jersey as it took Ronaldo even less than seven full seasons to become his club’s all-time top scorer. His scoring rate of 1.05 goals per game is incredibly more than twice that of second place holder Raul (0.44). Ronaldo also holds the prestigious record for most career Champions League goals with a tally of 88 and is Portugal’s all-time top scorer with his 55 goals.
Neymar has more number of club and international goals at the time of his 24th birthday than both the superstars Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi did at 24. The Brazilian has amassed a total of 209 club goals in his career, almost double of what Cristiano Ronaldo had (111) at the age of 24. Neymar has played a total count of 121 games with Barcelona in all sorts of competitions, and has more goals in the contests of La Liga (48 vs. 37), Champions League (16 vs. 11), and also other competitions (11 vs. 3) for the club than what Lionel Messi did in his first 121 matches.
At 24, Neymar is already standing fifth on Brazil’s all-time top scorers list with a handsome 46 goals, two behind Zico for fourth place. Although Neymar is still 31 goals behind Brazil’s all time great top scorer Pele. Neymar’s international goal total (46) is more than double than what Cristiano Ronaldo (21) and Lionel Messi (17) scored at the time of their 24th birthdays, making the battle of statistics between Ronaldo and Neymar spicier.
Ronaldo and Neymar are not the only popular soccer players who are celebrating their birthdays. Boca Juniors forward Carlos Tevez turns 32 today. Others born on Feb. 5 include the likes of Manchester United’s Adnan Januzaj (21), and Inter Milan’s Rodrigo Palacio (33), as well as the former players Gheorghe Hagi (51) of Romania and the Dutch defender Giovanni van Bronckhorst (41).
